January: Show and Tell: Oculus DK1

New year, new Refresh! We’re back! We’ll be meeting next Tuesday at 6PM! Be there!

Jon Baer will talk about and demo the Oculus Rift DK1 VR head mounted display (the company has since been bought by Facebook and is expected to release a commercial version “soon”). He will explain a few things learned while being an “early adapter”, let
folks try out a few demos, and just have an open discussion on virtual reality in general. Demos will include roller coaster, space tour, city exploration and the Oculus Tuscany demo. We will also discuss how to go about creating content for the Oculus (both rendered and cinematic). Expect a rather limited technical discussion but more open dialog and hands-on.

Details:

  • When: Tuesday 1/20 @ 6PM
  • Where: Focus Lab’s Office @ 35 Barnard St on the 2nd floor
  • Who should attend: everyone!

I’m going to try to organize things a little better so we have meetings more often – but in order to do that, I need speakers or at least ideas for topics y’all want to discuss. So, post a comment or email me your ideas: lawver at gmail.com, pretty please!

Other things to be aware of:

  • RailsBridge is back! – February 28th at the Creator’s Foundry. You have to sign up in order to attend, so do that!
  • 1 Million Cups – I went to the first one and it was great! A great place to get help with your entrepreneurial queries and meet other folks working on cool stuff.
  • TEDx is back! – You should sign up to speak or nominate your favorite person to speak. And be on the lookout for ticket sales.

Hope to see you on Tuesday!
